| 114744 | 2003-01-17 21:44:00 | Hi I want to find a piece of software that will make a full/restorable image or backup to CD-R, bootable, so that to restore a complete system all I have to do is put in the CD and boot-up... ie a complete (and simple) disaster recovery system. What would users recommend. |

| 114746 | 2003-01-17 22:42:00 | No disaster recovery plan is simple. The major consideration is the space currently used on the hard drive - CDs have a limit of (currently) 700 Mb. Consider the hard drive backup in Nero as the easiest for an inexperienced person to use. Ghost is acceptable though requires knowledge based on experience. Items to consider with Ghost are: creating a bootable CD running Ghost following CD booting limiting access to Ghost features to avoid possible piracy. Apart from Nero, there may be other programs such as EziCD Creator, WinOnCD and CDWin that may also allow for hard drive backup. |

One proviso - it backs up your entire HD - not what is used, so a very large HD will takea long time & a lot of CD's. In my case, the C partition is only 2.38gb so fits on 4 CD's and takes only 10 min or so to copy. Bye |

| 114751 | 2003-01-20 06:31:00 | Norton Ghost is very good - even better if you use Ghost Explorer and once a total image is made Edit it to remove unneeded 'crap' that you probably wouldn't mind using. Then recompile the image onto CD or another Hard Disk.. Depending on what you want to do it may pay to have a seperate Hard Disk to first save the images to. You can't save an image onto the disk you wish to back up (or you'll infiniately loop backing up the image, backing up the image, etc, etc. | kiwistag (2875) | ||

| 114753 | 2004-03-19 09:32:00 | Trying to find a cheap/free Backup/Restore program is rather stingy. If you dont value your data , dont bother backing up...really... I suggest a Ghostimage of the HD and putting the Data on DVD+RW or a 2nd HD/PC, cheapest way! |
