114739 2003-01-17 10:42:00 I upgraded my win me to Xp.
Everything is fine execpt for the modem bit.
I cant connect to the internet because it says i have no modem.

So i put in the driver CD but it says it is not compatible with XP and i have to go on the maker's site and download the driver. I dont understand how i could do that if i dont have the internet......

Any way i went on it on my friends pc but in the site www.conexant.com I didnt know what driver to use....

What is a HSF generic modem and a HCF generic modem?

Could anybody please give me any suggestions???

That is a description of most of the cheap internal modems used, but depending on who made the modem (they almost all use the Connexant chipset) determines which driver you need .

Some of these internal modems (Winmodem, softmodem, PCI modems are other generic names) were not at all happy with XP .

Ideally you need the modem maker, which is often on a sticker or the PC board of the modem itself (such as AZTECH) and you do a Google search on that . If you have a "brand name" PC, then go to the PC makers website and see if they have XP drivers for the modem .

Did you run the "compatability test" on the XP CD first? that would have likely warned you if the modem was not suitable . Mine did, and nothing would get the modem going, so I replaced it with a real Hardware based external serial modem . In two different PC's .

114741 2003-01-17 18:06:00 Went through the same scenario of ME to XP.
Went place where I purchased computer who advised that I would need to buy new modem. Went to PressF1 and was directed to this site. (http://www.driversguide.com/) Searched, found, downloaded and installed the necessary driver and I was in action.
