114653 2003-01-17 09:33:00 OE seems to remove most of my attachments saying they are unsafe, can I adjust this setting? I have XP. starfish (3019)
114654 2003-01-17 09:45:00 Starfish,

In Outlook Express, click on TOOLS | OPTIONS and select the SECURITY tab, unselect (untick) the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" and click OK

Cheers, Babe.

114655 2003-01-17 09:57:00 RuthBabe, do you think this is a good idea or will I be causing myself problems???? starfish (3019)
114656 2003-01-17 10:03:00 Starfish,

You can turn on/off the 'feature' as and when you wish. As long as the email/attachment is what you were expecting and the user who sent it is known to you... wel your call... but at least you have the control. I assume you have an Antivirus software product running all the time and perhaps a firewall.

Cheers, Babe.

114657 2003-01-17 10:11:00 how do I check I have a firewall? starfish (3019)
114658 2003-01-17 10:16:00 Starfish,

You may have Nortons Firewall (or Internet Security) or ZoneAlarm or... maybe some other firewall product (there are many but Zonealarm seems popular).
You {or someone on your behalf} would have installed and set that up.

Cheers, Babe.

114659 2003-01-17 10:19:00 I have AVG free edition starfish (3019)
114660 2003-01-17 10:21:00 Or, as you have XP, you may have the internal XP firewall enabled, but it only works for incoming, not outgoing traffic.

Just right-click on your dial-up connection under Networking connections, and select Advanced. See if there is a tick in the Internet firewall option

114661 2003-01-17 10:26:00 Starfish,

AVG is an AntiVirus product... quite good I believe... a lot of people who come on this forum use it. See Godfather's post...
