114635 2003-01-17 06:43:00 Okay, at the end of everday I goto delete my temporary internet files through

start - programs - accessories - system tools - disk cleanup.

I click ok and it does all its business, then I go into paint shop pro and goto where the temporary internet files are stored according to disk clean up (C:\Windows\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\(some random folder) and all these images etc are there.

Now I expect Clean up to get rid of all these and i can't fully delete them cause of index.dat in each folder..

Is there anyway to change the directory of where the temp' 'net files are stored??

114636 2003-01-17 06:45:00 Update, And then when I go in through Windows Explorer and goto that location it has all the pressf1 logos (I went here straight after disk cleanup) and files etc..Weird... Beef (1415)
114637 2003-01-17 06:59:00 You are deleting in the wrong place Beef.

Got to IE/Tools/Internet Options and delete there. That will clean out the temp folders but Index Dat will still be there.

As a general rule, windows dat files cannot be deleted from windows so you need to delete from DOS. All index.dat files can be deleted at will because windows will automatically recreate them. They can appear in different directories though so there is no hard and fast rule for deleting. I use a DOS boot disk and batchfile to nuke mine, along with cookies, temp files and a few others I don't like.

114638 2003-01-17 07:01:00 Yeh I just remembered about that, I have already gone into that and deleted them and the cookies.

but the funny thing is I could delete all the images from paintshop pro that i would find in say Local Settings\Cjg7393gj\

114639 2003-01-17 07:25:00 A quick and easy way to delete all your temp internet files as well as the index.dat is to use Spider. Look in the FAQs (link top right of this page) for FAQ 9b for more details. Susan B (19)
114640 2003-01-17 08:10:00 You can delete anything in the temp files from Windows no problem.

I don't know about Spider, Susan's the maven on that but if I recall correctly, some F1'ers found it a bit problematic to install and get going properly.

Cheers

114641 2003-01-17 08:37:00 Hi Susan,just been thinking of bothering you again! ;\
Have run Spider and (my wife is asking why am I writing to strange ladies while she-my Susan-is in the room) and it lists all these hundreds of urls, but never manages to delete them,no matter how many times I've tried. I've also installed and run CleanUp,but checking with Spider afterwards, and after deleting all Spider files, these urls are still there. So looks like these two don't work on my ME. X-(

114644 2003-01-17 22:35:00 Hi Neil :-)

Sorry to hear that Spider appears to not work for you. With Windows 9.x I have read that this is usually because:

1. A computer has never had these files purged and since there are so many of them it takes a lot of tries before they finally go, or
2. The Spider program got corrupted during download/installation.

With Win ME however, the reason it won't work is quite mysterious. The forum where I originally heard about Spider has a lot of Win ME computers using the program without problems so I do know that it can work. Deleting all the temp and index.dat files manually might help but unfortunately Win ME doesn't provide full access to DOS so that is not easily done.

Because Clean-up is also not working for you I suspect that the files that the programs are looking are not where they are expecting but I'm only guessing because I'm not that familiar with Win ME.

None of that is of much help to you I'm afraid, but there are other programs that are supposed to do the same job, but they are shareware and not free to keep using like Spider is. If you are interested I can find out which ones they are for you.
