| 114679 | 2003-01-17 06:18:00 | strange problem but friends laptops are that way. it is a toshiba satellite 1900 / bios1.50 and the win xp home start up is locking up during loading. first i get the toshiba screen (i can access bios here) then the black screen with the gradient at the bottom. it says Resuming Windows... - above the line and For Troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows, press F8. F8 does nothing. the computer stops when the bar is full and is locked before that. i've gone into the bios and tried to get the cd drive and/or floppy to boot initially but nothing seemed to change upon bootup - same two screens. i have even tried disabling the harddrive in the bios boot sequence to no avail. the last thing he did was playing around in the display properties>setting>advanced> somewhere. it came with a toshiba recovery cd rom (x2). i assume they work but i cannot get a boot from cd. i tried my xp disk before realizing that i couldn't get a boot. |

| 114680 | 2003-01-17 07:03:00 | You probably need the Toshiba boot floppy to get things started. Toshiba manuals are very good in their descriptions of how to handle this sort of problem so read that, find the boot floppy and then start again. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
