114561 2003-01-17 03:35:00 Hey

Im using outlook 5.0 and recently whenever i double click the outlook icon it doesnt open! No matter what i do, from finding the .exe file, to rebooting, to checking my ctrl-alt-del list nothing! It just wont open!

The last thing i did with it was reboot while it was downloading the mesages cause the loading bar stopped and didnt go anywhere.

Whats going on here?

Thanks

Hi Polk, can I take it that you mean Outlook Express 5.0?

Have a look here at OE won't even start (insideoe.tomsterdam.com)

This Microsoft Knowledge Base (support.microsoft.com) article might also help.

114565 2003-01-17 08:33:00 you might have a corrupted .dll file. have you tried reinstalling OE? glenn (177)
114566 2003-01-17 08:47:00 how do i go about doing that?
i cant uninstall.reinstall cause i cant find the disc i used to install it in the first place!

If i upgraded to the next version up of outlook, will that fix the problem?
Do i have to go about install IE 6 as well?

114567 2003-01-17 08:49:00 My outlook jammed once when someone was sending me a mp3 file. Nothing I did seemed to get it going, so in the end I just turned my whole computer off, left it to settle for a few minutes then turned it back on. Before I went back on-line, I reopened OE and sent myself an email then connected to my ISP. This unjammed everything and everything started functioning 100% OK again.

114568 2003-01-17 17:33:00 I'd upgrade to at least IE 5.5 SP2. Take your pick:

114569 2003-01-17 20:33:00 im sorry i cant see to find outlook in that list!

Can i just get outlook express seperate without having to update my browser?

If i do update, will i lose all the identities and saved addresses?

thanks

114570 2003-01-17 21:01:00 In therie you wont lose anything. Of course in therie the program works fine too.

I would say that you wont lose anything that you havent allready lost, and chances are that whatever is stopping OE from opening is a corrupted/missing file that is not part of your address collection or message store.

IE and OE are so intertwined that you will probably just have to do a full windows update, and hopefully then your problem will be gone.
