| 114711 | 2003-01-23 09:30:00 | I use 1 60 Gig HD with 3 partitions. Win XP Pro. AMD 2400+ 512 Meg RAM. CDWriter. Part 1 holds the op system and apps. Part 2 holds downloads and data I want to save. Part 3 holds the swap file only. To backup I use Norton Ghost and /or copy to CDR I have a second hard disk ( 10 Gig ) for Linux. I don't use this one much but it's nice to have available. Both hard drives are masters but only one connected via cables at any one time. No dual booting that way. Major hardware changes ( like today changed the Motherboard, CPU and RAM ) can be handled if you have backed up everthing onto CDR / CDRW or other partitions. I would not be comfortable having one 60 Gig hard disk with just the one partition. But that's just me! :-) |

| 114712 | 2003-01-23 21:46:00 | Susan - I wouldn't worry too much about that message. I think it comes because you have an old version of the dos tools that come with win98. This message dates back to win3.11 and 95 days when the system couldn't boot if the partition crossed a barrier - i think it was around 512MB but don't quote me on that. If the system can run off the 6Gb with one partition, then splitting it to two will cause no bother. What you will find however, if you try to dual boot, win98 will most likely not be able to boot of the second partition. Hope that helps, Craig. |

| 114713 | 2003-01-23 23:46:00 | Thanks for that Craig. Hopefully I won't be needing to reformat again too soon but next time I'll give it a go. :-) | Susan B (19) | ||
