115183 2003-01-19 06:34:00 Does anyone know how I can get the Nokia Ni500 ADSL router to work under Linux? I am on JetStream Starter and currently have it working under Windows XP. I am trying out different Linux distros (RedHat, Yoper) and I would like to be able to set it up in most of them without too much hassle.

Thanks in advance. :-)

115184 2003-01-19 08:40:00 ok it's not the Nokia Ni500 that needs working but the configuration of your NIC (Network Interface Card, in other words your ethernet card)

I don't know the default gateway for the Nokia Ni500 so bare with me. I'll use 192.168.1.1 as the gateway and 192.168.1.2 as the ethernet card for now but you'll need to change it to suit your modem. My ISP is Paradise so I'll be using their DNS. If your ISP is different you may like to find out what DNS they use but using Paradise's one should still work.

I'm still new to Linux and don't know how you find out if certain hardware is detected or installed yet... so I'm assuming your network card has been found.

in console/terminal do

ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 up
route add default gw 192.168.1.1 netmask 0.0.0.0
emacs /etc/resolv.conf
and type: search paradise.net.nz
nameserver 203.96.152.4
nameserver 203.96.152.12

save it and that should be it.

Things that will need changing is eth0's IP, broadcast's IP, gw's IP, search and nameservers.

Hopefully this works for you.

115185 2003-01-19 08:47:00 I think it should just work. With it bring an external router you'll just need to configure the same things as you did with WinXP. being the default gateway and DHCP. -=JM=- (16)
