115059 2003-01-18 20:32:00 For anyone that is using both linux & windows, have you considered setting up your windows to make other users get into Linux easer, for example instead of having a C:\"program files" folder you call it C:\"usr local"

Instead of having your other users scatter files all over the hard drive you make a
c:\"home" folder so when John Smith comes along there is a folder ready for him at c:\home\john smith the 3rd\

Of course you all need another folder or two, that linux does not need called "crash" at c:crash this folder is always left empty (or blank) because you never know when a
windows crash will occur.

One could have a lot of fun setting up there windows so to make other users
not considering going to linux (now) make it easy so maybe if they change
their mind they could get into linux like a breeze.

115061 2003-01-18 21:06:00 I am suprised E.ric that you didn't suggest the need to apply a KDE or GNOME theme to the Windows as well ...

GNOME Theme (www.zdnet.com.au)

115062 2003-01-18 21:08:00 yes that would be c:\home\Clueless\my documents\

the Linux equivalent to
/home/Clueless/documents/

115063 2003-01-18 21:14:00 Mind you .... you could just apply a XP theme to KDE 2 to make users feel at home while using linux ....

115064 2003-01-18 21:29:00 Yes Jen C I must try something other than KDE desktop, But first ......

I just got apache to work so I could do PHP and the rest,
My next task is getting KBear to work, so I can upload files to the web site

Interesting thought, but I myself like the way *nix does it. You also don't have the problem of running out of drive letters.

115066 2003-01-19 07:48:00 If I sat down at a Windows machine with c:\usr\bin (or whatever) I think I would just get confused. Windows is <drive letter>:\Program Files\ normally and c:\windows. You just have to "switch your brain mode" when you sit down on another os which is what I do (well try anyway). Dolby Digital (160)
115067 2003-01-19 07:55:00 I agree with DD - MS Windows has a default directory structure and way to deal with drives - so does UNIX/Linux - you just have to get used to the differences (and once you get started it is no major issue). JohnD (509)
115068 2003-01-19 11:30:00 This was a start of a joke

Windows has drive letters
Linux does not have drive letters.
