| 114854 | 2003-01-18 06:23:00 | My friend runs XP home ed. Every time her machine boots up, it displays a model box saying "You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart?". I'm not very familiar with XP - any ideas how to stop this from happening? |

| 114855 | 2003-01-18 07:36:00 | It sounds like its detecting some new hardware on each boot, and installing it. Then wanting to reboot to initialise the driver. You may get a clue by looking in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager. See if there is an exclamation mark beside any device? Also try such things as booting up with only minimal things connected (only KB and Mouse) if thats an option, to eliminate any external device. |
