| 114825 | 2003-01-18 03:04:00 | I am trying to network Red Hat 8.0 and Windows 2000 for Internet, Files and Printer sharing. unfortunately, it doesn't go too well. I just wonder is there any website that had the information about networking the Red Hat and Windows? BTW, I am trying to use WorkGroup instead of Domain for the networking and I had no idea whether WorkGroup will be a right choice or not. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! XJ |

| 114826 | 2003-01-18 03:15:00 | Welcome to the club - I too have setup networking between a Win2K PC and RedHat 8. You need SAMBA or smb to be install on your PC first off, as SAMBA shares folders on your linux PC on the network so that Windows PC's can access them. When its installed you'll need to modify your smb.conf file (/etc/samba/) Change the share level from user to something else (shre or public, not too sure which... Im on doze at the mo.) Basically, if you have a look through the Pf1 Archives, you'll see there's a few people who've tried to setup samba. Also, the smb.conf (Samba Configuration file) is pretty well documented when you open it! Dont forget, in a console window to do a: service smb start or if its already running: service smb restart And you should be sweet!! Cheers Chilling_Silence |
