| 115583 | 2003-01-21 00:28:00 | hoping someone can help, have asked this before but still have a problem with out look express freezing, opens ok but when i go to use anything it freezes, seemed to start happening after someone installed pop up hawk on our computer, has also affected hotmail, cannot get in via the normal log in, a file starts downloading to our computer when we try to log, not saying where it is from, where it is downloading to etc, left it to download but after an hour was still going, we can get into hotmail via msn home page, but not via usual login. have tried unistalling popup hawk but is not on add/remove programmes so removed it from c drive, but understand something may still be on computer if i took it off this way. have tried reinstalling windows, reinstalling outlook express, changing inbox, had various people look at it, virus scanned, defragged, disk scan, looked for corrupted files and nortons system works utilities!!!!!, but nothing seems to work. HELP PLEASE SOMEONE thanks we are using windows 98 and outlook express 5 |

| 115587 | 2003-01-21 00:55:00 | how can i remove it if it does not show up on add/remove programmes? i thought the only other way is to do it the way i did, if i reinstall pop up hawk, then remove it will that fix the problem or are the setting changed for good? | catgirl (2231) | ||
| 115588 | 2003-01-21 01:44:00 | Did the folder contain something called Uninstall or UnWise or something like that? - as those are the uninstallation programs. Not all programs add themselves to the Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. Installing and the uninstalling the program should fix it - however remember to install it into the exact same directory it came from in the first place. Also, if that doesn't work, you could try restoring Internet Explorer and Outlook Express to their Clean Installed state? Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs Microsoft Internet Explorer X and Internet Tools Add/Remove Advanced Make sure Outlook Express is selected Okay Repair Internet Explorer Okay! |

| 115589 | 2003-01-21 01:48:00 | I can't find any reference to a popup hawk program on Google. Do you know where it came from? A few other things you could try are running AdAware (www.majorgeeks.com), first and check your BHO's (browser helper objects) - BHO Cop (www.pcmag.com) should help with that. It might also help to run a registry cleaning program - go to the forum's Registry FAQ (link to FAQs top right of this window) for the link to a good registry cleaner. |
