| 115362 | 2003-01-20 00:13:00 | Hey! I've got NIS on winxp home.. and it has parental control enabled with password protection.. i was gonna go into a website this morning purely a "clothes" website...and it says its been blocked coz of "sex/attire"...so i went to NIS to put execption on that website...and apparently i've totally forgotten the password... I put NIS parental control on for when my bro and others use it... So what can i do? I know it'd be tricky telling me on here..coz u dont want to "ruin" the use of having it on..coz if a kid reads this then they'd know how to get it off themselves... So if u want...just email me how i could override the program and change the password so i can get into this website....email addy is sinclair@ man dot quik dot co dot nz thanks in advance :-) |

| 115364 | 2003-01-20 01:28:00 | Ooh.. Geez.. You should never listen to me when it comes to playing with your registry settings! - infact you shouldn't listen to me at all! Anyway - have you turned Parental Control off or do you still have it on? - if you turned it off then you can turn it back on! (confused yet ?:|) Righto - have you tried changing your password for NIS and then telling it you want it to prompt for a password on everything? - sorry I'm that helpful - except I don't use NIS' Parental Control (as I've stated) - also, just for reference for the experts out there - could you provide a copy of the email I sent you in PF1? - just copy and paste (remembering to edit out my IP and Email address should they be visible) - I would, except Hotmail won't save messages in my sent items folder unless I tell it to - which I obviously didn't CyberChuck |

| 115366 | 2003-01-20 01:42:00 | Bugger . . > actually i didnt touch registry . . . i'm terrified lol . . Don't be terrified of the registry - it automatically backs itself up every 4 days or something, so should anything go wrong, your computer should be able to restore it to a time it was happy as harry! I tried uninstalling IIS and it gave me the option for uninstalling NAV or Uninstalling the entire program (NAV/NIS/etc) - so you can't do a repair or restore program which is a pain . I could reccomend that you uninstall it and reinstall it? but this time you could use your Windows Profiles as your NIS profiles as I suggested in the email? so that way you don't need to use a password as your settings load when your profile loads - also considering WindowsXP is pretty secure, providing your kids don't crack your password you should be fine - it's when they learn about password crackers and all that when you really need to start worrying :p CyberChuck |
