115471 2003-01-20 19:02:00 Is anyone aware of a virus that would prevent writing to your c: drive? glenn (177)
115472 2003-01-20 20:38:00 Hmm... Not that I know of off the top of my head, but there is bound to be one somewhere.

I know they can do it to floppies...

Why? If there's not one, planning on creating one yourself? ;) :p

If you check symantec.com they have a huge list of viruses, try your luck in there!

115473 2003-01-20 20:55:00 I was going to post something about a virus that continuously played the Windows "Critical Stop" sound in a loop every two seconds or so, causing any menus you open to close as soon as the sound played...

It just started happening out of the blue for no reason :D

Then I minimised all windows and found that ASUS PC Probe was having a tantrum about not being able to draw it's canvas for monitoring my computers "health" - I've had this a few times before, but only after leaving it on all night, not after an hour in the morning.

Ended up killing it via Task Manager.

115474 2003-01-20 22:17:00 In what circumstances can you not write to your C: drive? For instance, while in Windows are you trying to use a prog that does direct disc writes instead of going through Windows. Windows disallows this. Robin S_ (86)
115475 2003-01-21 00:46:00 A friend called me and told me he thought he had a klez.h worm. He downloaded a fix from f-prot but said it wouldn't run. He said he tried copying it to the hdd but said he couldn't. That sounds strange to me. The fix is windows based and wouldn't run under dos.

I was going to stop by today to check it out myself so I thought I'd ask around for a bit of help :)

Cheers

115476 2003-01-21 00:48:00 It could simply be that his HDD is VERY full!!! Chilling_Silence (9)
115477 2003-01-21 00:59:00 I thought that as well, but this is a really small file, about 100KB.

I downloaded the DOS version of F-Prot and will see if I can get that to work.

Thanks

115478 2003-01-21 01:01:00 Do you mean F-Prot is File Protector?? Chilling_Silence (9)
115479 2003-01-21 01:05:00 Nope. F-Prot Anti-Virus.

115480 2003-01-22 07:29:00 I was able to copy to the HDD after all . I'm not sure what my friend was doing when this happened to him .

AVG found 281 infected files .

Many hours later, things are peachy .

Friend promises to update anti-virus software :)
