115949 2003-01-22 05:47:00 I recently installed Windows98 SE (over the top of Windows95C which I had been using since 1998) which seems to be operating satisfactorily, excepting that during shutdown/restart, the error message:
" msgsvr32 - This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown" appears whenever the attempt is made. On acceptance the shutdown/restart operation completes.
However this seems to be preventing successful installation of the USB-Hub driver (which requires a restart for installation-completion) that I need in order to get my PC to recognize my recently-acquired (Xmas present) digital camera.
On the presumption that 'msgsvr32.exe' may have been corrupted I have tried replacing it with a 'clean' version which I located on the Win98 CD and extracted successfully. However Win98SE wasn't having any of this and refused to do it!
I am at a loss and would be grateful for someone to steer me in the right direction. Sorry for being so long-winded!
Cheers, mahwt

115950 2003-01-22 07:15:00 MSGSVR32 messages can be caused by various things during start up and shut down.

Explanation on what MSGSVR32 means here (www.windows-help.net)

Things you might want to check out if they apply here (www.geocities.com %20due%20to%20an%20illegal).

Msgsrv32 Has Performed an Illegal Operation" Error Message Occurs When You Upgrade to Windows 98 (support.microsoft.com) might also be of help.

If none of this helps, post back again.

Cheers
Jen

115951 2003-01-25 03:50:00 Thanks very much for your help
Problem solved in that the error message is now history!
Well almost solved!
I now have to find an up-to-date driver so that I can re-enable my sound-card ( which appears to have been the cause of the problem).
