115940 2003-01-22 05:02:00 I am looking to upgrade my graphics card. I am looking at the Geforce4 MX 440 range. I have seen this one:

www.gainward.com

I have sourced a model of this with 128MB RAM, and have been unable to find a better deal on pricespy.

Is this a good deal?
(please note, I have a limited budget, and don't really want to pay more than $150)

Cheers,
Craig.

115941 2003-01-22 07:39:00 If its coming from pricespy then its the best price :-)

Check this out (http://www.tomshardware.com) goto the video card section and see some of the tests against similar cards, you can then base a decision.
A geforce 3 Ti and in somecase a Geforce 2 can out perform an GF4 MX.

115942 2003-01-22 08:32:00 That model is a MX440SE. The SE version is a low performance version of the regular MX440 :| wuppo (41)
115943 2003-01-22 09:29:00 Wuppo is correct; You're better getting a high model GeForce 2 MX (which in most cases is cheaper), it cuts quite even with the card you've showed us. DistantCube (3037)

115945 2003-01-22 22:45:00 Damn, I am glad I asked for a bit of info on that card. I already have a geforce2MX, but it seems to be too old to use the drivers that nvidia puts out these days, and the performance is rather lacking now. I need to use the lowest detail settings that a game provides, and even then the graphics are a bit jerky.

I need an upgrade, and i'd rather not get a shonky card that i'll have to upgrade again in a years time. I also don't really want to upgrade too far, as I will be getting a new PC later on this year, and will get an agp 8x card then. All I want right now is a reasonably capable card (with tv out) to keep me going until then.

How about this:

www.prolink.com.tw [$160]
(I would be getting the agp 64Mb, with tv-out but not DVI)

or

www.triplex.net.cn [$180]

Thanks for your help,
Craig.

115946 2003-01-22 22:54:00 Well, Mine is a GF4 MX 440SE 64MB and I run Jedi Knight 2, Day of Defeat, Unreal Tournament and other games like that at 1024x768 with full detail on worlds and models as well... I get a good 80 FPS! Id say too! Chilling_Silence (9)
