1327900 2013-02-13 18:28:00 I have been talking to a friend on the phone - he has a shiny new desktop computer bought from Hardly Normals. They have failed twice in setting up his Xtra email service correctly (ie - it doesn't work!). He is using Windows 8 on his new system. I have only talked on the phone so far, but I'm getting the feeling he thinks I can 'fix' it!

I think he uses Outlook Express. Have you some hints for me before I venture forth to have a look at his machine? I see something on-line about Pop3 not being used on Windows 8....

As always - TIA of your ongoing help. :)

1327901 2013-02-13 18:50:00 There is no outlook express in windows 8. It hasnt been in windows since xp.
I would install Mozilla thunderbird and use that unless they have office with outlook included.

1327902 2013-02-13 19:06:00 On Windows 8 the App on the desktop wont allow pop accounts. You have to install some third party client. Theres many about. Normally I use Live mail, its basically a combination of outlook express and Outlook.

Some people dont like it, but theres nothing wrong with it, and I've seen a lot of problems with some others.

1327903 2013-02-13 20:52:00 I set my xtra mail up in the app and it just worked. All I told it was my email address and password. dugimodo (138)
1327904 2013-02-14 04:53:00 The Windows Store Mail app doesn't support POP3

A workaround is to setup Outlook.com to collect the POP mail and synch the Mail app against Outlook.com
