1327270 2013-02-09 19:55:00 Hey guys,my mate who's a uni student wants a desktop+monitor for around $1000.
Only games he's into are the Total War series and other strategy games.
It would need an operating system but I could lend him a spare keyboard and mouse.
This is what I have so far.I'm sure you guys can do better than this though.

If you spend extra money get an i3 or something (note you'll need an intel motherboard), pretty sure they beat a6,a8 cpu's. If you can't fit an i3 get the quad core a10? (or is it a8, I can't remember). It's like $60 extra. As much as I hate recommending AOC products the screen was cheap. Might want to pickup an extra 4gb of ram and boost the gpu up to a 7850 or something. I try to avoid budgeting for a screen, cuts into what you can buy quite heavily.

1327275 2013-02-09 23:09:00 Hmm, what he wants and what he gets are going to be totally different for only $1000. All I will offer is Good Luck. Iantech (16386)

Yep - but that CPU has the integrated Radeon HD7660 and a spare PCI-e slot for a graphics card upgrade in future when funds allow.

I only went to PB Tech as the OP was obviously looking there.

However I would certainly go with pctek's suggestion over the PB Tech I linked to.

1327279 2013-02-10 00:43:00 Thank you all for your suggestions so far.I'm leaning towards the Playtech one at this stage.
I know there are tons of good looking ones on Trademe,I just don't trust them that's all.
just sent him a text telling him I'll need around $1500.I don't think $1000 gonna cut it.
