1327140 2013-02-09 01:25:00 "Oh great...started up the computer and Windows started by resetting all my personal settings.

Then when I checked...all my documents (including my accounts) and all my photos had vanished (personal photos, auction photos...everything recently.

Now...every few weeks I have to set everything up again, including Open Office, browsers, AVG...the whole thing."

A tecchie friend of hers told her to get a new machine as it was 7 years old.

Another person advised her to try the Microsoft Fixit Centre.

I told her to check My Computer and her documents folders. I said there is no way that Windows would delete her files.
And she got nasty to me.

1327142 2013-02-09 01:55:00 Sounds like corrupt user profile, files will still be there in the old corrupt profile. At 7 years old it will most likely be time for a new PC to be honest. Alex B (15479)

So she got nasty? Let her rot then.

1327146 2013-02-09 08:01:00 Tell her to 'Show hidden folders' and there they all will be, I fixed a computer that had this problem, it is a specialized Trojan.

If she finds the folders are there but hidden, then post back and I will give procedure I used to repair.

1327147 2013-02-09 10:44:00 If the files are only hidden, can be caused by malware, then one way is to run a program called "unhide.exe" Its normally downloadable from Bleepingcompter, but at the moment their pages wont load.

You can get it though from HERE (helpdesk.malwarebytes.org) - link at the end of Step 2
