1301988 2012-09-18 22:53:00 Can you change to low user rate as that reduces line charges to around 30 cents a day?
(did for me anyway) but of course you will then pay more for each unit.

Control Fee??? Metering, Network Charge, Kw Load Charge and Transmission Fee! The last two are affected by what is called peak loading determined by how much you use or your highest Kw load during the periods they monitor and the only part you can actually change with your habits year by year.

Haha thats the issue we are faced we were on a Low User Tariff expect now the robbing Baskets called THE LINES COMPANY have decided to exclude our area from the Low User Tariffs because they claim us as being Rural. Can we change supplier erm No this is the Lines Fees.

Irony is we are with Meridian for our power supply and that is on a low user traiff....

I really feel for the Pensioners and low income familys in the region affected by this as thats a fixed charge for many made worse by the load is set during the winter when people are keeping warm! Your habits set the rates but if you have electric heating you buggered because the loading is usually done when its cold and this region is one the coldest in the North Island it applies to.

Have been looking at that but the initial cost would take a few years to recoup at current prices and then there is the fact we are currently selling the place (I wonder why?) if not next month but with 4 years. Whether or not it would add value to the property is another thing given the prices of house are also dropping here. Kind akin to filling up a old car witha full tank of petrol! Does the fact you got $150 worth of fuel increase a cars value sort of thing.

One person I know has gone off the grid cost him $25,000 and he built his plot of land up for his kids future so made sense.

I think the biggest thing is not how it affects us but others in the area as well! You can get help from WINZ for accomodation costs but Electricity is not one of them even though this is a fixed bill that you have very little control of like House insurance, Rates! Any normal area you just switch off a few lights, unused appliances, etc and you can save on your bill but not here. TLC have been screwing the district for the last 6 years and this now is getting beyond a joke when they (Lines suppliers) have been told they can put up bills another 15% or more next year.
