About time, very overdue.
Cant wait to hear the benes start whining to the media. I will be putting in my ear plugs being the kind sensitive sort of person I am.

1301491 2012-09-17 06:41:00 The changes will cost the Government $520 million

How do they manage to waste that much money on something that simple?

1301493 2012-09-17 08:09:00 So in fact it's to cost us all more?
Another brilliant move from the Shonkey gummmint.
They can't even do subtraction! :D

1301494 2012-09-17 08:15:00 We don't actually have enough context to conclude the assumptions people seem to be making here. The same figures could quite easily be interpreted as "something that used to cost $920m/year will now cost $520m/year, resulting in a $400m/year saving". I personally suspect that this meaning is the intended one, but there simply isn't enough information in the article to be sure. Erayd (23)

1301496 2012-09-17 08:21:00 There could be a saving there with the initial cost being $540 million but they expect to save $400 million per year in the future ie over three years they will save 1200 million. Bobh (5192)
1301497 2012-09-17 08:31:00 Heck yes, I've read through all the proposed changes so far and they're all fantastic! Great stuff :)

Far too much "free handouts" just coz people know they can ask and not have to do anything. It's *way* too easy to develop a dependency on government handouts.

1301498 2012-09-17 10:08:00 These changes still won't create any new jobs at all. QW. (15883)

Lot of people I know work seasonal or part-time because there are not enough full time work opportunities around. There was a time not so long ago infact that living and yes working those types of jobs and hours was liveable. Its pretty hard to be on a low income when the income is only better off than the benefit by $60 per week. Its worse when you have hypocrits telling you you must find full time work when it does not exist!!!! Harder still when your a employer whose overheads end up costing jobs to stay in business and that spills down.

I wonder how much it cost for WINZ to claim back that 1 cent on the news tonight?
