1302561 2012-10-02 03:50:00 Amazon is one way, or direct from Google.

You can use HotSpotShield to give you an American IP Address. Login with your Google account, setup your Credit Card to also use an American postal address (Such as that provided by Ship2u.co.nz) and you should be good to purchase the Nexus 7 straight from play.google.com

Get it sent to Ship2u's American Address (You'll suffer a small amount of American taxes) and then get Ship2u to forward it. The whole process takes roughly two weeks, and the Shipping Forwarding cost through Ship2u will be around NZD$20 (Which is pretty damn cheap!).

1302562 2012-10-02 04:24:00 A little more support for the Nexus7:::

I tend to use it more than my desktop - which I use only if there's a lot of typing needing to be done. Typing on a screen is kinda hard and I tend to use word-whiskers (uh, er, ahem, sniff, snort, etc.) that my Nexus translates into Klingon.

My dictation skills need honing, instead of me needing to berate my Nexus.

I find I need to gather my thoughts first THEN speak to it so it doesn't find some obscure-but-perfectly-legal-although-totally-out-of-context words to fill in the blanks.

It's faster, smoother and it almost reads my mind about what I want to do or see next. Vids are so smooth that it's amazing.

I watch whole TV shows and online movies all the time, although no tablet has a really decent 7.1 sound systems, it's at least in stereo and (quietly) adequate - most of the time.

The sound is best when you allow the unit to lie on a table or some other flat, hard surface. Putting it on your pillow at night to stream a radio, isn't a good idea as it gets muffle.

Oh yeah --- it takes great videos too! Really smooth - and the one big test I saw right away was video-ing water as it flows - and the Nexus camera gets it really good, and not strobe'd like my Kodak camera. You can actually see the water flow and the waves break, not just some frothy blur of water motion!

Weaknesses? Maybe one or two:::

A) ONE and only one camera - but I understand why: it's a cost effective thing. Still - it would be nice to have a rear-facing camera too.
B) No SD slot. OK - that's nitpicking - but again ---- it would be nice ................

Boot time is under 15 seconds if you don't use a password.
Battery life is very long! VERY long!
Even scanned books, page by page, are large enough to read without a magnifying glass. They also turn to landscape from portrait and easily can be zoomed.
I run an epub reader and it's smooth and seamless.

As of yet I have not watched the free movie ---- Transformers 6 I think. Is it loaded or do I need to download it to view it? If it's in the Nexus, then I'll watch it once and delete it if I can.

Hey- Chill - can I get rid of that Pinyin translator that keeps asking for updates? I don't want nor need Korean. I cannot find a delete GUI for it when it's running and it's not listed as a app.

1302563 2012-10-02 05:20:00 Yeah absolutely
Go into the App List, push and drag it to the top-right where it has "info". From there, you can disable pretty much anything! :) (So just be careful what you disable)

1302564 2012-10-02 07:39:00 I bought a 16GB version of the Nexus 7 on 24 September using Chill's instructions. It was delivered to the American shipping company office a couple of days later. Looking forward to it arriving here in the next few days... Should be landed in NZ for around NZ$380 (the exchange rate is your friend at the moment) johcar (6283)

1302569 2012-10-02 08:17:00 Might look at a Kindle fire also QW. (15883)
1302570 2012-10-02 13:52:00 Chill --- I could only find it listed in the cached area and disabled it there after it gave me a stern earning that it might also harmfully interact with other (legacy?) installed apps too.

The option to remove it doesn't exist, just disable. I see it's a Chinese keyboard and English-Chinese translator too, although I have no need for it any time nor place.
