1328082 2013-02-14 06:42:00 Looking at getting a brand new Samsung laptop which comes standard with Windows 8. It's not touch screen and I'm not really at all interested in Win8 from the general consensus, Win7 seems to be better at this stage.

Anyway, I don't own any Win7 software (current laptop came with it factory) so how does one go about downgrading without paying anything? Does MS/Samsung offer anything like that or what is the best/cheapest/free way to (legitimately) put Win7 on a Win8 laptop?

1328083 2013-02-14 07:58:00 There is no downgrade offers. You have to buy windows 7 if you want it. Other wise ask the shop to supply a windows 7 version of the laptop- but this may be beyond some of their ability :) They'll more than likely say it only comes with Windows 8.

This may sound harsh but
I'm not really at all interested in Win8 from the general consensus So you let others who often dont like something because its to difficult for them to grasp something new make up your mind on if you actually like something or Not AND you have never tried it yourself ? :groan:

Read the following post completely pressf1.pcworld.co.nz and you'll see several replies actually contradict your comments.

To quote myself from an earlier post:
I've delivered a couple on New W8's to people this week, once I taught them a few basics they loved it.

Actually had one call me back today and thanked me, they were used to using their other W7 PC, but the new W8 they found it much easier once they had been taught correctly and got used to it.

Windows 8 is faster has quite a few more features than 7 and once you get out of the follow the sheep mentality you may like it. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

1328084 2013-02-14 08:22:00 Just adding to the above, its not just a simple case of installing W7 either, Windows 8 by default uses UEFI-mode to boot, had a windows 8 the other day I needed to blow away a password, damn thing wouldn't boot from a CD I use even though it was set as the first boot device, had to adjust the security in the BIOS to allow it , so the first step is to get past the security in the BIOS, then you can do what you want.
The manufactures can still offer W7 Laptops / PC's till October 2014 - BUT it upto them to do so, and the shops to get them.

1328085 2013-02-14 08:38:00 Don't complicate things. Just buy it as is. Seriously, you can work entirely in desktop mode and not notice you are not in win7.

Shut the lid and put it in sleep mode then open the lid and there is the desktop again.

1328086 2013-02-16 01:22:00 Stick with 8, but you could download this www.iobit.com and use it until you are more familiar with 8's apps screen. It boots into desktop and looks like Vista/ 7, and any time you want the 8 apps screen just hit the Windows button. golfer (6609)
1328087 2013-02-16 02:00:00 Be very aware that the Samsung UEFI has a bug
that will COMPLETELY render the machine UNBOOTABLE
if you try to boot anything other than the Win8 that is on it!!!!!

I used capitals because this issue has permanently bricked a number
of samsung laptops, if you think it's bossy then you are mistaken.
OK?
