1327684 2013-02-12 21:21:00 This morning I turned on my PC and came back to find the screen blank and black, absolutely nothing visible happening. It's an NEC running XP - yes, several years old but good as gold yesterday. There is a button on the back that I pressed which still brings up a little box with details like 'brightness' ( brightness at 97% !)
Any advice on anything I could try to check out the problem, switch it back on, whatever? Thanks.

1327685 2013-02-12 22:21:00 First check that the conection between your PC and monitor are still good. Disconnect them and reconnect them and switch everything off. Then try again. That is the easy bit out of the way. Looks like your monitor is just not getting a signal from the PC. CliveM (6007)
1327686 2013-02-12 22:21:00 Is the PC powering up ok and there is just no display or is it not even starting?
Check the obvious stuff first, are all the relevant cables still attached and the power socket switched on etc.

After that it's maybe time to look at the graphics card. Is it onboard or discrete ?

1327687 2013-02-12 22:42:00 Thanks for your replies folks. But as I was sitting in front of the PC, but using my laptop, at exactly 11am (the witching hour?) the PC screen suddenly came to life, went through a series of testing and activity including a system restore I OK'd and we're all good to go!
But I'll keep your advice in mind in case we have a repeat tomorrow.
Graphics card? Don't have a clue about those. That's what brothers are for. Will get him on to it!

1327691 2013-02-13 19:17:00 No Speedy - I'm only running XP (I like to keep things simple). But the problem is happening again this morning (Thursday) so I'll keep my eye on it come 11am! advena (13666)
