1302597 2012-09-21 07:49:00 Went to update to IOS 6, connected to my pc, and selected download and install update. The update failed when it was installing, my ipod now has a symbol on it which indicates I need to connect it to a pc to reset it (currently that is ALL it shows). Only issue is, it isn't recognised when I connect it. I tried a hard reset, same thing.

Help!

1302598 2012-09-21 08:18:00 I wouldnt install it anyway. If you use Google maps. Since apple replaced it with their own crap. And its not as good. Looks like it failed with a lot of people who tried to update to ISO 6. I take it, Itunes is installed?

If Itunes is installed, look in its logs. On the apple forum Apple said if there's an entry there saying ramrod 1004 your Ipod may have a hardware fault. And you maybe able to get it replaced

1302599 2012-09-21 08:20:00 Hold the power and home for 20 seconds while connected to computer. Try Shift restore in iTunes to the ipsw. Or get TinyUmbrella and kick it out of recovery mode.

+1 to speedy - you're not missing out on much at all.

1302600 2012-09-21 08:27:00 Ok - in desperation I connected it to my families old pc, and for some reason its booting into recovery mode now. So it wiped everything and I'm having to download the software for it, but at least it *should* work. Still don't know why it wouldn't do it on the one I normally use then.

As far as IOS 6 goes - I never use the maps. Have no choice now though, has to re-download the software, and IOS 6 is the only option.

Ahh ok. I'm downloading IOS 6 anyway, I never use the maps, I don't think the changes will affect me that much.

1302603 2012-09-21 08:55:00 you dont need to connect to itunes to update it, you can do from the ipod itself as long as it is connected to a wall charger GameJunkie (72)
1302604 2012-09-21 09:01:00 That requires 2.4 gb of empty space, I only have a couple of hundred megs. Nick G (16709)
1302605 2012-09-21 11:42:00 No untethered jailbreak for iOS 6! How can you use iOS without a jailbreak?! :D

You can only downgrade to iOS 5 if you had jailbroken on iOS 5 and saved cydia SHSH blobs.
