116152 2003-01-23 18:40:00 I have recently purchased a second xp pc. Former has orig. w98.

In trying to network the 2 with 2 network cards and a cable crossover.
The xp wizard goes fine. The file and sharing, client for microsoft networks and Internet protocol are all showing loaded as per any diagram or instructions I have looked at.

I use the network start up disk created by the wizard and set up the w98 pc and that goes fine. I call the workgroup home'' on both pc's and have renamed the machines boss and slave so as to get unique names.

The xp machile shows everything is connected-ie- the 2 little tv's in the tray reflect the network is connected at 100mps and timer is ticking away. Both 'link'lights are working on the cable at each pc.

But, when I go into 'my network places'and try to open 'home'a message comes up and says I dont have access to the network and to contact the administrator. I have 4 users who are all adminisrator rights''with no one on limited rights. Ive tried every option to allowsuch access in the settings, properties.

As well, neither pc can 'find'the other when trying to 'find'via the start menu - ie search for computer named 'boss'or slave' on either.

Very frustrating when evrything appears connected when they cant see eachother.

116154 2003-01-23 18:57:00 You say you have file sharing enabled, but do you have the actual folders and files set to be shared? Right click on a folder/file, choose Properties and ensure there is a tick in sharing. Susan B (19)
116155 2003-01-23 18:58:00 Also, do you have a firewall that could be blocking access to each other? Susan B (19)
