116089 2003-01-23 05:39:00 Does anyone know of a free personal firewall that supports running on a win98 Internet Connection Sharing gateway?

I've tried Outpost, Tiny and Sygate so far, and none of the others I've looked at seem to support it either.

116090 2003-01-23 06:41:00 I have just switched from Outpost to Kerio as Kerio supports ICS. It is free and works well on my Win 98 and Win XP computers.

Get it from www.kerio.com

116091 2003-01-23 10:07:00 most pro versions support it. i think kerio is one of the few free ones that do. i couldn't get outpost pro to work with ICS, however that could have been just my system. tweak'e (174)
116092 2003-01-23 22:01:00 I grabbed a copy of kerio (which looks an awful lot like Tiny) and enabled "running on internet gateway" but it still is blocking ICS.

I can ping by IP and hostname, but all other traffic is blocked.

Is there something I've missed?

I don't really want to pay for a pro version when all I really use it for is to block windows filesharing.

116093 2003-01-23 22:16:00 otherwise just use ZA free and lower the sicurity to allow ics to work. tweak'e (174)
116094 2003-01-24 00:02:00 There is quite possibly something you have missed but I don't know what because Kerio is a little on the "advanced" side for a firewall to me. It took me a bit of time to get it working but I was just missing the "running on internet gateway" option -- once that was ticked I was away.

Sorry, I can't offer any more advice other than to go through all the settings with a fine-toothed comb and try different things.

116095 2003-01-25 00:40:00 I don't think it likes my network setup. I've done a clean install of everything network related.

[A million reboots reboots later... ] and it now blue screens as soon one of the other systems tries to access the internet, followed by many complains from the firewall about a lack of a buffer.

But it doesn't matter because ICS seems to have closed the windows filesharing ports to the outside world which is all I wanted.
