116080 2003-01-23 03:31:00 Hi

Tomorrow I'm going to get 128DDR ATI Radeon 9000Pro, but there are two things that really bothers me . Well, here they are:

I just recently find out my FSB is running at 186mhz :_| , my CPU is a Duron 1 . 3ghz . I bet that is going to affect the graphic performance by alot, right? Or just by alittle? I thought anything that is running above 1ghz have a FSB about 200mhz?

Second, right now I'm using a 250W PSU, I have a 320W one but that one was just too noisy so I decided just to keep using the 250W PSU because I really don't have much things like case fans, a powerful CPU fan etc . So the question is, is 250W enough to run it properly? No crashes etc . I have a case fan, 1 HD, CPU fan running at 4,800 rpm something, 1 CD drive, 1 floppy drive, the CPU is 1 . 3ghz and 384 SDRAM .

Thanks alot :)

116081 2003-01-23 03:39:00 The PSU should be fine, unless you're using TVO, coz when Im using TVO and my DVD-Player, the switch to TV-O sucks out a ton of power and kills my HDD - so it restarts if I was using the DVD to play DVD's at the time.. OTherwise, should be sweet though :-) Chilling_Silence (9)
116082 2003-01-23 05:09:00 What about my FSB speed? Is 186mhz enough? If now, how big is it going to effect my performance?

By the way, is it actually worth it to have it on a Duron 1.3ghz(FSB:186) with 384 SDRAM?

Thanks

a dorun should have a 200mhx fsb. either whatever you used to find the fsb is reporting it wrong or someone played with the fsb settings and slowed your pc down. if neither and there is no optoin to alter the fsb then possibly a crook motherboard. note- fsb is 200 as in 2x100 not 2x133(266)

116084 2003-01-23 19:34:00 I used SiSoft Sandra Standard 2001 . 5 . 8 . 11 . I went into the Motherboard information, and there under System chipset->Front Side Bus Speed: 2x93(186hmhz data rate) . If this is wrong, then is it hard to change the FSB? I'm not very good in Bios :(

Thanks alot :)

116085 2003-01-23 21:26:00 check in bios what the fsb is set to . most motherboards have an auto option . also check on boot up what your cpu speed is .

mind you it wouldn't be the first time i've seen a bios set to slow down the fsb just a little bit to increase stability . check the manafactures web site for bios upgrades .

116086 2003-01-24 07:39:00 I went into the bios there is a setting called "CPU host frequency" and it's set on Auto and if I change is to manuel, it has something like 100mhz or press up or down to select . Is this the place where I change my FSB? I don't go the Bios often so . . . :( .

I went to the manufactures web site to download an update for my bios but one the instruction said to create a bootable disk that can allow me to go into MS-DOS and copy the update file into the disk and the program "Flash" . The only bootable disk that I know of is my Window 98Se startup disk and it's on a 1 . 44MB floppy :( . The Window files it's self already took almost 85% of the disk and now I have to get another 250KB file into it as well as another 520KB onto the same disk as the window start up disk :_| .

Is this what you suppose do? Or am I way off track here :( ?

Thanks alot :)

116087 2003-01-24 19:46:00 the win98 rescue disk will load its disk contents into a RAM drive, and the command.com is loaded into memmory. This means you can stick in another disk (your flash disk) and then proced to apply the flash. roofus (483)
116088 2003-01-25 04:28:00 Thanks alot roofus, and thanks alot to everyone's help :) .

I brought and installed the card today . It runs pretty good but I doubt it's any better than Radeon 8500 . Cause I have a friend's brother who have Counter Strike FPS running at 60 and above all the time using Radeon 8500 (even when he has the resolution on 1280x1024) . Yet mine only kept running at around 45-60 FPS (on all the resolution) :( . Well, at least it has a 20 FPS increase from the onboard video chip :) .

Well, thanks again to everyone's help :)
