116243 2003-01-25 08:48:00 nifty.... I may take inspiration & attempt something similar as an experiment, thanks for the idea :-)

any particular stuff you "wish" was "magically" uploaded by mysterious "leprechauns"?

116244 2003-01-25 09:12:00 I just realized that all the hyperlinks got stripped out of my original post ?:|

So here's what my first post was meant to say:

Well, I've been having some fun with FTP on my NT 5.2 RC1 box, so I thought I'd share the experience:

Here's what I did, first I grabbed a copy of GuildFtp (www.guildftp.com) Daemon from here (http:), and configured it.

Once that was setup I went along to dyndns.org (http://www.dyndns.org), and setup a free dynamic dns account for nzliam.kicks-ass.net .

Once that was done I garbed DeeEnEs (palacio-cristal.com), (a free Dynamic DNS IP updater client), form here (palacio-cristal.com), and configured it with my dyndns.org account info.

Aaaaaaand that’s it, I now have a fully functional ftp server operating off my 56k via ftp://nzliam.kicks-ass.net , take a look, Username=anonymous Password=nzliam.kicks-ass.net

Cheers

Liam

There is nothing I wish was uploaded to the ftp, remember files are hosted on behalf of users ;)

116248 2003-01-25 11:09:00 I had real fun earlier on setting up the ftp server as you described liam.
I used the programs mentioned but didnt need the links as it was fairly easy to find them via Google.
Getting signed up at dyndns.org and adding a host was ok. Configuring Guildftpd and DeeEnEs took me a bit of brain power, as did playing with IE5.5 settings to get connectivity, I had to uncheck "Use Passive FTP..."
Also had to set Kerio firewall.

I used homeftp.net as the host but found it a bit erratic connecting to, so I added another host, dyndns.org and that worked reliably.

Im still trying to upload files via a program called FreeFTP, but there is something screwy. I can download to myself via IE ok, so I'll try another ftp program, probably finger trouble.

i know of a few people who have been kicked off their isp because they were'nt supposed to be running a webserver, and at least one of them was just mucking around, and learning like you (and me :p) are,

Hmm, well thats odd, I havent had any problem at all, (except for the fact that NT 5.2 RC1 gives me the 'blank screen of death' every 24 hours, (without fail) which locks up all system processes and requires a hard reset).

I'd grab a copy of the 'free' WSFtp from ftp://nzliam.kick-ass.net/Utils/ws_ftple_tuc.exe ;) and give that a try, and let us know the URL of your server so we can all take a look at you hard work ;)

116251 2003-01-25 22:41:00 Well, I got ftp uploading to work, the problem was a mix-up with the password and user id.

I'm not too sure about going public, as the intention was just to enable file sharing with family mainly, but when Ive tested it out with family them maybe I'll let you have just a teeny-weeny glimpse for a short period :)

Fair enough, if it's just for family use then thats cool, just make sure that all accounts are passworded, because even if we don't find it the bot's will.

Happy FTP'ing :)
