2003-01-23 23:34:00 | Mine used to be - Topics per page: 50 Messages per topic listing: 50 View mode: threaded Thread map: on But just had a fiddle and and it is the View Mode setting that made all the difference for me, like Neil, i didn't like the sequencing of posts, - its heaps better in View Mode: Flat for getting the postings in order. But i am too used to having the thread map at the top on ;-) so went back to that. New settings: Topics per page: 50 Messages per topic listing: 50 View mode: Flat Thread map: on Thanks for the tips should have done it ages ago.

2003-01-24 00:20:00 | all i'll say is the defaults really suck. they need to be set to at least 50. no wonder newbies don't see even a third of the new posts. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-01-24 03:34:00 | My settings (changed them right after I joined) are as follows: Topics per page: 100 Messages per listing: 100 View mode: threaded Thread map: on Always watch topics I create: yes Always watch topics I reply to: no Always email me watch update notices: no Email notifications format: html Since wondering just how it would look with view mode set to flat (while trying to read 'backing up my game', I've decided to change to flat mode, and turn the thread map off - after all, I only used it to find the newer posts among all the old ones!

2003-01-24 05:13:00 | Thanks guys - as a novice this is really great ! I have just changed my settings - there are so many things to learn (especially after two chardonnays). I have put to the same settings as Susan B and quite a few others. It is a privilege to learn from all (almost) of you. Keep the good work up ! I will give of my best too. How do you do these damn emoticons ? I tried to double click then copy and now "the boss" has called me for dinner ! Wanted the happy one.

2003-01-24 05:35:00 | You type the set of characters given in the ASCII column of the table. For example, to do this emoticon: :p, you would type ": p" without the space between the : and the p. | agent (30) | |
2003-01-24 05:38:00 | > Translation from Pidgin :on > Swearing Filter :on > Punctuation :on > Crystal Ball :on Anyone got an 'Insert random words throughout my posts: on' setting? Or 'Encode using "extremely confusing encoding algorithm": on' setting?
