| 116233 | 2003-01-24 00:58:00 | Well, I've been having some fun with FTP on my NT 5.2 RC1 box, so I thought I'd share the experience: Here's what I did, first I grabbed a copy of GuildFtp Daemon from here, and configured it. Once that was setup I went along to dyndns.org, and setup a free dynamic dns account for nzliam.kicks-ass.net . Once that was done I garbed DeeEnEs, (a free Dynamic DNS IP updater client), form here, and configured it with my dyndns.org account info. Aaaaaaand thats it, I now have a fully functional ftp server operating off my 56k via ftp://nzliam.kicks-ass.net , take a look, Username=anonymous Password=nzliam.kicks-ass.net Cheers Liam :D |

| 116234 | 2003-01-24 01:10:00 | And I've been the guinea piggy. I have CuteFTP (trial) setup, and can access ftp://nzliam.kickshisown-ass.net :p and upload and download my / his files ok. Whoops, wrong url. Instead try ftp://nzliam.kisses-ass.net And there I go again How bout ftp://nzliam.kicks-ass.net. Ah, thats it.:p And the preference is either .rar or .ogg radz:p |

| 116235 | 2003-01-24 01:33:00 | I managed to eventually access it.. Had to disable my firewall though, which was strange considering I've successfully browsed other peoples FTP sites without hassle ?:| Still, considering it's hosted over a 56k - I got pretty good speeds when browsing around the site - personally I couldn't tell the difference between browsing your site, and any other FTP site - still, that's probably just me :p |

My own webserver... on my poor 56k wont be able to cope :D > whats the uptime gonna be like > ? :D Judging by NT 5.2 RC1's reliability... probably not more than a day. > > There is 558 megs left on the upload drive, go > > nuts! > > hmm, surely i can find a way to bypass this, and > upload the top 100 pirated software applications from > kazaa :p Actually there is 558 megs left on the C drive. | 116238 | 2003-01-24 04:48:00 | Really excellent. I like ftp. Ftp from DOS was all I had when at DSIR. I can do a similar thing with Terrapin File Server as one way to transfer files between friends/family, but the program needs to be on each computer which is not so clever. Think maybe Ill try your way too. |

| 116239 | 2003-01-24 08:02:00 | Well the inevitable happened, I added a http server, now being that the server is a NT 5.2 box, Microsofts premier server operating system, you would think it would make sense to use IIS which is built in. WRONG, after installing IIS it was obvious that I would have to spend 15 mins or so reading it up, (which in my opinion is a HUGE waste of time, hey I could be eating instead :D). So off I went to www.apache.org (http://www.apache.org) and downloaded that latest apache http server, it took 5 mins to download, 15 seconds to install, and 30 seconds to work out where to put my webpage! Aaaaaaand there we have it http://nzliam.kicks-ass.net is online :D Cheers Liam |

World-Net (http://www.corld-net.co.nz), but it's not the ISP that detirmines the connection speed (they are only the billing agent), the speed is just dependant on how overloaded you local telecom network is, and in my case im on a PCM with verry few users, so I get good connection speeds. > Do they allow you to run your own server? Why wouldent they?? |
