116554 2003-01-25 10:00:00 I remember reading in a computer mag (a NZ one) an article about speeding up your system and it said if you dont put discs in very often you can disable something so your computer loads/works faster. Well, i did what the tip suggested...only thing is, I cant remember how to reverse the action. My CD Player shows volume controls as though sound is working, and yes, i did check my speakers were turned on..the player shows like the cd is running through the tracks..just no sound. I use Win98 and IE. Any advice for an embarrassed twiddler? Carol T (1211)
116555 2003-01-25 10:04:00 I dont think it would be related to any setting you changed?

Double click on the Volume Icon in the system tray (or access it via control panel - sounds)
make sure all options are enabled under properties (which will show ALL controls)

Its likely one of the playback controls is muted or turned right down.

Did music cds work ok before you applyed the tip?as it sounds like the audio cable between the cd-rom & soundcard is missing.

Are they plugged into the correct socket?Ive seen people move their computer & then plug the speakers into the MIC socket by mistake.

Have you verified the speakers are working by playing an MP3 or a WAV file? if not You can go into control panel & then Sounds & you can preview some of the windows sound files.

Was that the "Other" magazine? They give very strange tips.
