116439 2003-01-30 01:04:00 Hi

Was told yesterday that 128k was no longer available (with package deal, I suppose), the 256k speed is nice but, the voice/internet combo & networking are my main considerations. Worth going on hold for 20min or so to see if thats correct. Popped them an email bout 4 days back but haven't got a reply yet, Telecom was 12hrs.

If the 128k cable is not available packaged with my other services, whatever option/combo I come up with is going to cost more plus, that $17-/mth modem lease grates. I've just seen a cable modem/router for about ten mths' worth, retail.

I hate been cornered into a "choice" especially when I had done my research asked around, etc and thought I had it all figured very nicely :(

116440 2003-01-30 01:21:00 Unless things have very resently changed, the $17 is included as part of the connection pagage, by memory, when they say "cable modem rental" they mean "hooked up and running"

check out the website

www.telstraclear.co.nz (follow links from products>packages)
or try here:
www.telstraclear.co.nz

it says:
Telephone line rental
Second telephone line
Choice of Internet 128 Broadband
Monthly cost $107.90

116441 2003-01-30 02:48:00 Yep. checked that out, had it onscreen while I yakked to the on the ph. Told them they should update there site if they didn't want more grumps like me. haven't had a chance to ph back to check yet though but, paradise are still offering 128k cable (which is telstra) which makes me suspicious.

Thanks

116442 2003-01-30 03:53:00 Hi Murray

If you end up deciding to go adsl because of all the cable woes, you may be interested in this. I just received an ad from Gamma offering the following - you were asking about Dynalink earlier:

Dynalink RTA220 Router

The RTA220 is a new generation secure dual interface ADSL Modem Router. It enables the use of a telephone line for both regular voice calls and highspeed Internet or corporate LAN access at the same time. Sharing high speed Internet access is made easy by connecting the modem/ router via a highspeed 10/100Mbps auto-sensing Ethernet port to your LAN or computer. This is independent of the operating system and does not require loading any drivers. A USB 1.1 compliant port is also available for connecting to a stand-alone computer with Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP.

Gamma is: www.gamma.co.nz

and the modem router description is at:

www.dynalink.co.nz

Price: $299 plus GST. Not sure if that is competitive or not, but it sure is a heap cheaper than I paid for my Nokia Ni500 plus a DSE switch. Not a good idea to be an early adopter...

116443 2003-01-30 04:34:00 Thanks John

Hadn't got down my list to Gamma yet . Thats looks a very good price for that unit going on memory and they're a ggod unit too going by the specs (not that I'm an expert) .

Re ealier post this thread, Telstra are fazing out 128k 10GB/mth cable . All you'll be able to get is 256k 5GB & up after March including existing users of 128k (mth x mth contracts) . The call centre person I talked to other day is obviously on a bonus for each customer she shifts to 256k because she was a we bit premature .

Wouldn't have thought that the broadband market has matured enough to allow them to ignore their customers to that extent but, I hear Telstra is as reviled in OZ as much as Telecom is hear for their off hand approach to customer relations, or am I being a bit harsh .

Thanks
