116463 2003-01-25 08:25:00 Since about 2 weeks ago, Norton Antivirus 2002 has decided that it would not update the virus definitions, or let me run Liveupdate to do it manually .

It claims that I don't have any Symantec products on my computer which can be updated using LiveUpdate .

I first installed Norton Antivirus 2002 mid-last year, and it functioned properly then . I reinstalled several days ago, but it didn't fix the probelm . My subscription service does not end till March, so that shouldn't be a problem . I installed Sygate Personal Firewall early Jan, however NAV has run properly with it installed . Any suggestions?

116464 2003-01-25 08:46:00 Hi Somebody

Have a look at

This Thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)

Then check your virus definitions as described in the thread to see if they are up to date.

Cheers

i suggest you remove nortons antivirus, clean out any leftover files, clean out nortons registry entries then reinstall. then download the manaul updates here (securityresponse.symantec.com) and update it.

116466 2003-01-25 20:52:00 The change to the update process appears to have been initiated at Symantec and affects a number of users. Reinstalling won't cure this, but reassurance that it is not a system fault on your computer can be obtained by checking that your AV definitions are up to date as described in the linked thread.

If they are not, THEN you have a problem that might require the process recommended by tweak'e.

Cheers

116467 2003-01-26 07:20:00 I have updated my definitions manually by downloading the Intelligent Updater file. What is the process by these "tweak'e"? Do you know where I can find this?

If anybody else has had the same problem as me, and knows a solution, can you please let me know. Thanks.

116469 2003-01-26 08:40:00 Just curious Somebody

Did you actually check and see if your AV defs were up to date as I suggested. You see, your problem is probably not unique and you may not have needed to do a manual update. That was what the referenced thread was all about.

Cheers
