| 116891 | 2003-01-28 08:39:00 | I have XP Pro, and i was wondering if there was any advantage in updating Direct X. I have whatever version came with XP Pro, Is there any version higher than this? Not 9 though. |

As for advantages, Ive seen noticable improvements on all machines that Ive installed it on so far, whereas others have reported none. My family's PC with 64MB Shared Video RAM ran as badly as anything at 512x480 or whatever (Cant remember exact res) when playing Unreal Tournament. I got about 10FPS max with DX 8.1 on Win2K Now, with DX9, I enjoy a good solid 30FPS at 640x480! Obviously results will vary, but if you can spare the download time, then heck, why not? | 116893 | 2003-01-28 20:23:00 | It's up to you whether you update Direct X or not but do be aware that if you have problems afterwards you cannot uninstall it. The only way to revert back is by reinstalling Windows. I'm not entirely sure but you might also have to reformat prior to reinstalling. | Susan B (19) | ||

I meant if one wanted to uninstall the updated Direct X you might have to reformat before reinstalling Windows. I am unsure whether a reinstall of Windows alone will revert your system back to the previous version of Direct X. Either way, it's a hassle. |

I know you can (Amlost impossible though) get rid of 8 and 8.1, but format's easier. The great thing is, that Ive installed it on about 30 machines so far and there's never been ANY problems at all, only improvements!! |
