2003-01-27 03:21:00 | OK. When you reboot your computer, are you saying it starts in Safe Mode, and rebotting doesnt allow you the choice of "Normal"? Remember there are modes that look like safe mode, but aren't. True Safe Mode has the words "Safe Mode" in each corner of the screen. Wheras if you have lost your video drivers, the screen looks like safe mode, but without the words. Can you confirm that it really is safe mode, and what happened to make it go into it?

2003-01-27 04:41:00 | This morning when we started the computer it froz and in the end we had to pull the plug, (if you press the power button to try and shut it down nothing happens. Rebooting does nothing either still freezes at the same point. ) Later my Husband started it up again (I didn't see what happened) but he said it had safe mode in each corner at the bottom I think. He closed it down and I have tried the rebooting while holding down control until the list with NORMAL at the top comes up and have kept the control key down as instructed until the time runs out and the computer has started up again on what should be normal , but still have the safe mode type screen but the words Safe Mode arent there anymore. ???????? Any help????? Katydid

You will have 16 colours and 640 x 480 resolution display, just like safe mode (thats why its often confused with safe mode) See if your video drivers are still OK. Right click anywhere on the screen, (not on an Icon) and select properties. Then select "settings" See if you can select a higer colour quality See if you can move the Screen Resolution slider up to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 If you cannot, its likely that your drivers will need reloading. Post back for more help, and tell us exactly what make and model of computer, what version of Windows. |

2003-01-27 06:32:00 | Hi Katydid. Something you could try even in safe mode is a system restore. Don't know why no one has suggested it already, always my first option. Good luck. | Danger (287) | |

2003-01-29 02:33:00 | Hi there Danger, At last I have been able to get into F1 as Katydid. I havent been able to answer the last two posts as for some reason F1 called me a Guest!!!!!!!! and wouldn't accept my Logging in either. This is the first time it has worked even then when I clicked on Erics thread or whatever you call it when you are advised by email that there is an answer for me, I entered as a "guest' again so with fingers and toes crossed tried to Log in, and this time it worked. Maybe it was something I did when trying to fix the 'problem' which by the way I THINK has gone. I had to muck around with settings and tried other bits and pieces, so am not quite sure what brought things right. What I was going to ask yesterday, Is a System Restore when you re load windows etc. or is it something else you do. By the way I have tried to Back-up certain bits and pieces onto a floppy disk and never have any luck. I am one of those who needs 'Help for Dummies'!!!!!!!:-

2003-01-29 04:12:00 | Katydid, a System Restore function is a "roll back" to a known good configuration . Its only available on Win ME, or XP . Its not on 95 or 98, or 98SE . We don't know what version of Windows you have . Its not a guaranteed solution though, as it wont always capture "everything" . Its a good feature but not always activated (sometimes it is turned off) . You log in problem is this forum, read the hosts comments on the opening page, first post .
