| 117251 | 2003-01-30 04:05:00 | hi, i purchased a 2nd hand monitor from cash converters a few months ago. anyway - the lst few weeks, on boot up for the first time in the day (after skool) it (the monitor) was displaying a greenish tinge - u could still see everything - i could typpe documents etc - but it all had a greeny effect - and red colors showed more as black, after about 5-10min everything went bak to normal again. but recently, its been taking around 30min+ to get bak to normal, sometimes tho - after about 20min u can give it a wak, and it'll come rite. Is my monitor seeing its last days? or is it just going thro a 'phase'? Cheers |

| 117252 | 2003-01-30 04:26:00 | Don't know if it will be any help or not but we have two Monitor FAQs on the forum -- take the link top right of this page to find them. | Susan B (19) | ||

If it slowly returns to normal, its on its last legs. The fact that a "calibrated thump" brings it right suggests that its a dry joint, although it could be an internal connection in the picture tube itself. Thats a pessimistic view though. Problem is, dry joints can be very hard to find (usually you cannot see them) and the cost to repair can easily exceed the value of the monitor. Is there any form of warranty from CC? If so I would be tempted to return it and try another. It may have been traded for the very reason you have discovered? |

Anyway, i tried teh FAQ's - no luk. and godfather, it does all come bak at once - no fade in etc. and also - a thump doesn't always work. O - also, if i've had my PC on, then turn it off, for say 3 hrs, usually, if i turn it bak on - its fine. And CC's warranty is for 30days only - which has expired, this didn't start happening till about 40-50 days after the purchase. It sound like it is a dry joint problem like u stated - wots the best way to go about fixing this - or is it best just to put up with it? cheers |

To fix a dry joint, unroll it, and put it in a moist room.... no really, you'll have to open the monitor up and re solder some of it, particually what is close to the input. Another option might be to give the cable a bit of a twist where it enters the box. If this "fixes" the problem, you may need to replace the cable. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO FIX THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT TO WORK ON SUCH THINGS. And dont forget to turn the power off first. .Clueless |
