117097 2003-01-29 09:09:00 Just wondering how many of you people use Clear Type and what sort of monitor you have.

Oh and ofcouse, do you find it better/worse than "standard" or just plain none.

For those that don't know where it is. It's under the "Appearance" tab of the "Display Properties", click the "Appearance" tab.

117098 2003-01-29 09:14:00 Yes.

Its designed specifically for LCD flat panel monitors, where it is remarkable in the difference, crisp clear fonts with no pixellation visible.

I use it on all LCD screens (4).

Its of questionable value on CRTs in my experience

1152x864_32 bit colour, no clear type, find it hard to look at after a while, probably been using the standard type for so long I've got used to it.
Two of my kids are using 17" monitors & the both prefer the Clear Type.

117100 2003-01-29 09:21:00 i find it annoying, i prefer normal text and on a 100hz monitor it'll beat any lcd IMHO ;)

117101 2003-01-29 09:40:00 It really doesnt work as intended on a CRT. Its sub-pixel rendering specifically for LCD. It tends to smudge on a CRT, as it cannot sub-pixel render effectively. You need a DVI interface to get the best out of it with LCD.

The resolution of a good quality LCD (referring to text clarity) goes sub-pixel in effect. For text based work, you will be pushed to better an LCD.
There is a large difference between low end and top end LCD quality though.

Cheap are horrible, and worse than a CRT.

117102 2003-01-29 11:56:00 I used to use it on my NT 5.1 box (1024*768 on Philips 107T @ 85HZ using a NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440)... But then I downgraded to NT 5 (to improve system stability) which doesn’t ship with clear type.

Cheers
