117181 2003-01-29 19:58:00 Have had NAV 2000 for about 6 months and it has worked fine, till now. Now whenever I do a system scan it just stops scanning (basically 'hangs' and pretends to scan but nothing happening) after only about 800-900 files instead of a full scan which should be tens of thousands of files. Has anyone come across this before?

The only way I've been able to get around it is by re-loading the whole program, but then of course there are about 6MB of updates to download each time!

What OS you use, whats your Comp specs.
What is running when this crash happens etc

It's a 6 month old PC Company Win2000 setup with XP. I have no programs running when I do the scan. Nothing has changed on any program setting to affect it. In fact when I uninstall NAV then reinstall it works fine for about two scans then has it's little 'hissyfit' and hangs like a 12th century bread snatcher.

This Symantec Knowledge Base Article:Norton AntiVirus scanner stops before reaching 100 percent complete (service1.symantec.com) may be of help.

It is a bit strange that if you reinstall NAV and download new definitions that it works for a couple of times and then stops again.

So is it win2000 or WinXP?

Is NAV2000 compliant with XP? I don't think it is.

Off memory I think 2002 is fully compatible and NAV2003 is fully compatible with XP.

I think there lies your problem, you are attempting to do a scan with a version that cannot do its job with XP.

Anyway around this.

Upgrade to NAV2003 would be one, it will cost you of course but you might get a better price by calling Nortons direct and getting a upgrade off them.

Change your anti virus to something such as AVG at the following link

www.grisoft.com 43c

AVG is WinXP compatible.

Remember to uninstall NAV before installing and running AVG if you take this course of action.

The problem with speed reading / typing the above should have read Nortons AV2000 and 2001 ARE not compatible with WinXP. v2001 might be partly compatible depending on who you listen to but that is not of a lot of use protecting your PC from virus's.
