2003-02-01 02:31:00 | Strange. I know you can redefine my documents to be somewhere else but still thought of as My Documents (I have it in c:\data). You haven't deleted the directory, have you? robo.

2003-02-01 05:02:00 | Can you clarify exactly where you are trying to browse for a picture or file where My Documents isn't displayed? You say My Documents is in Windows Explorer, so in which app/s is My Documents not displayed when you browse for files? | Susan B (19) | |
2003-02-01 05:47:00 | This has got you thinking.I have not tampered with registry-I am too scared to.When I use Windows Explorer to look around my folders 'My Documents' is in its right place-BUT-when I try to insert a picture into an e-mail the brouse 'box'will not show 'My Documents' in the 'C' menu.cheers rdee [I keep all my pictures in My Documents-at the moment] | rdee (1809) | |
2003-02-01 06:58:00 | When the dialogue box opens for you to find your file, are you sure that My Documents isn't already highlighted in the "Look in" line above the main large box that displays all your folders on C:? If it isn't, then what is actually in that "Look in" box? | Susan B (19) | |
2003-02-01 09:19:00 | HI Susan B,you are quick. When the box opens & the 'look in'C -My Documents is missing from all the folders.I have added shortcuts to My Docs in the C folder & on the Desktop so I can click on these to get to My Docs--sneaky aye Cheers rdee | rdee (1809) | |
2003-02-01 11:21:00 | > -BUT-when I try to insert a picture > into an e-mail the brouse 'box'will not show 'My > Documents' in the 'C' menu.cheers rdee [I keep all > my pictures in My Documents-at the moment] When I first read this i thought that the prob would be you haven't got any pics in "my docs", until i got further down and read you had all your pics in your "my docs" - - as this usually happens when you have no jpegs or whatever in there(file type you are looking for). But what shows up is usually dependent on the - Files of Type and what you define in that space. I am wondering if it is on Files of Type: bitmap(for example) and you have all your pictures saved in jpg. So it may pay to check that the Files of Type box is displaying the format file you are looking for. If you go: Insert text from file - instead of Insert Picture, do you then get "my docs". Any way with any luck it is simply the file types set on wrong format :-)

Shortcuts on the Desktop to folders and programs are related to what the Open (or Save) dialogue boxes display. Therefore if you have a shortcut on your Desktop pointing to My Documents, but the shortcut is actually named something else, eg My Docs instead of My Documents then I would think that would be the name that shows in the Open dialogue box. It is probably something very simple but without being able to have a look at your settings I'm finding this a very tricky problem to solve. |

2003-02-01 23:13:00 | HI Folks,When I want to send a picture by e-mail by--Insert > pictures. When I click brouse it opens in the 'C'menu which shows all folders-except 'my docs'.I think it use to open in 'my docs'. I only added the shortcuts after I had the problem for two days. Also I have just tried another thing.-When I rt click on a picture to 'save as' I notice that the save box opens in 'my pictures'-which is OK but if I go to the 'C' menu 'my docs' is again missing.I really apreciate the help. cheers rdee | rdee (1809) | |
2003-02-03 02:04:00 | > When I want to send a picture by e-mail by--Insert > pictures . When I click brouse it opens in the 'C'menu which shows all folders-except 'my docs' . Hi again rdee, well the other night i tried to reproduce your problem (I thought it was that the file types were wrong, as that does cause that to happen in certain programs etc . . . so tested it) - but as i haven't got win 98 - i used our win 95 machine . I am presuming you are using Outlook Express or Outlook? so I used Outlook Express . The only way i could reproduce your problem was by first removing any . jpg & . gif files out of "my documents" - Then (in Outlook Express) when i went - Insert - Picture - Browse - (with Files of Type: . jpg and . gif, which showed by default as i am looking for a Picture to insert) - My Documents folder wouldn't show . (logically because there are no jpg or gifs in it) Can you tell us what Files of type: is defined in the dialogue box, so we can eliminate that from the equation . In here ( . neoburn . net/pf1images/browse3 . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net) > > > > 4When I rt click on a picture to 'save as' I notice that the save box opens in 'my pictures'-which is OK but if I go to the 'C' menu 'my docs' is again missing . However now this is happening i don't think the above would apply? And i can't test it as i am not at home sorry . Can you think of anything you did before this problem started??? And when you say you cannot find "my docs" when you "save as" now - is that using "save as" just in your e-mail? or anywhere on the computer? I am sure with the help of fellow f1ers we will solve it, but could you tell us what e-mail program you are using and what the file types are in the dialogue box . :-)
