117476 2003-01-31 21:18:00 Hi. When I browse to www.pressf1.co.nz, I am connected to pressf1.pcworld.co.nz http on about 20 ports, between 1060 and 1090. Anyyone know why it connects so many times?

I've looked at the page source briefly but can't see why. I've blocked all packets to or from the adservers, so there's no connections to doubleclick or imrworldwide.

117478 2003-02-01 05:09:00 Hi Greg :-)

How do you know you're connected to pressf1 on about 20 ports? Where do you find this information?

117479 2003-02-01 05:25:00 use the command netstat at a command prompt. -=JM=- (16)
117480 2003-02-01 06:38:00 Aha! Thanks JM. :-)

Interesting how the netstat results differ to what Kerio reports is going out, but I guess that it's constantly changing depending on what page I'm bringing up maybe.

Also noticed that my PF1 ports are in the range of 3054 to 3078, not like Greg's 1060 to 1090, and I only had five ports maximum open at once even when opening a dozen windows.

117481 2003-02-01 07:07:00 susan- you can tweak the amount of connections IE does make. handy little speed up for broadband users. tweak'e (174)
117482 2003-02-01 10:57:00 TweakE I use Netscape7.

Susan, you can try netstat /? for a list of command parameters too. However I use my firewall to give me a more detailed port connection list (AtGuard).

117483 2003-02-01 11:20:00 I have two open:
3795
3796

Does it matter which are open, and why does it change so drastically?!?

Thanks Greg. :-)

How? And is it a good idea to do so with dial-up?

117485 2003-02-01 22:43:00 no idea with netscape 7 sorry.

suisan- with IE its just a few registry entries. X-SETUP is handy for this.
