117516 2003-02-01 00:42:00 Ive just been on the phone to my girlfriend and she's had to format her PC and re-install Win98.

Now, when she double clicks on DUN to add her ISP's DUN Connection, it comes up with an error saying something about netdi.dll (She wasnt too specific).

I had a look and I found it in precopy1.cab on my 98 CD and got her to copy it to the:
\windows\
\windows\system\
\windows\system32\ folders!

She did this and said it's had no effect.
Is there some command or something she can do to register that file in the registry or something? Or should I simply download a DUN update, burn it on a CD and give it to her (Hoping that would fix it?!).

Cheers

117517 2003-02-01 00:52:00 Is this Dialup networking in My Computer.
If she ignores the error will Dialup networking open to allow her to Create a new connection.

117518 2003-02-01 01:07:00 She claims she cant ignore it but that's what I too suggested to her :-) Chilling_Silence (9)
117519 2003-02-01 01:17:00 She could always try running regsvr32.exe from Start-Run, type: regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\netdi.dll in the box and click OK.

I dont think (says he disclaiming all responsibility if things go wrong :) ), it will do any harm and it may just do the trick, though thats an odd error to come up havent seen that before.

But... having just re-installed Win98, it would certainl pay to download and install the latest dun, which I think is dun1.4

117520 2003-02-01 01:18:00 How about trying a new Dialup networking.
Control panels/Add remove programs/Windows setup/Communications and untick Dialup networking.
Exit out and go back in and tick Dialup networking again, OK everything and restart.

117521 2003-02-01 01:24:00 Okay, I'll let her know to try that regserv stuff...

She's tried removing it and re-adding it.

And yes, i think its 1.40 or 1.41, but I cant remember :-)

Thanks, I'll let you know how i get on!

117522 2003-02-01 03:04:00 There is an MS KB article related to not being able to open the networking tool which suggests replacing by extracting the netdi.dll file, but it also says to replace netos.dll as well.
It wouldnt do any harm to try that too.

117523 2003-02-01 03:22:00 Okay.. Shes changed her story a little.. Its when shes trying to install DUN that it comes up saying it cant copy.. So my thoughts are that the CD's scratched or that the file is corrput on the CD.
She says that she double clicks on DUN in My Computer and nothing happens, so yeah... :-)

Im thinking I'll just burn her the update for DUN and give that a shot unless somebody has a better idea :-)

Cheers
