117730 2003-02-02 02:00:00 Wow, one of our computers suffered a hard disk drive crash. The noise from the event was unreal, however the drive is now kaput. To an extent we are smiling, as all of the effort doing regular backups may now prove their worth.

We obviously now need to replace the drive, which came pre-installed with Win ME. we still have the certificate of authenticity with the serial number and the recovery CD and all of the paperwork associated with the purchase.

Am I legally able to purchase a new drive and reinstall Win ME onto it using the recovery CD provided ? I don't know if the recovery CD will allow the re-installation onto a new HHD, perhaps someone could comment on that also.

117731 2003-02-02 02:02:00 I have done that in the past, without any problem. The recovery CD installed without a hitch. It should be entirely legit, as the OS is licenced to the PC, and the recovery disk is keyed to the motherboard BIOS I believe. godfather (25)
