2003-02-02 04:16:00 | Hi. Running NAV as part of the systemworks pro 2003 package. It would seem that my virus subscription is no longer updating. Live update succesfully updated the parts of the programme the other day. But the virus definitions havn't been updated since the 15th. I get this error Downloading Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions (1 of 1), failed. Your proxy server return an error. Verify your proxy settings in the LiveUpdate Control Panel application. the problem is i havn't touched my internet settings, and i don't have a proxy either. I'm running WinME and my isp is quicksilver

2003-02-02 04:48:00 | I am using 2001 but should not make a lot of difference.....the current number of virus defs should be 62988 dated 1/29. I have had this error or a very similair one couple of times over time, have you left it alone and tried it again later. Might be possible that Nortons is struggling to keep up with downloads. I could also be way off track as well........

2003-02-02 08:06:00 | check the update logs. look for any error message. the logs are usually in C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-02-02 19:48:00 | Thanks for that tweake, didn't need to use it this time, but i'll keep it mind for next time. I checked out symmantecs KB. Apparantly sometimes Live Update (LU) will just decide to stop doing some things, so then you have to uninstall the antivirus portion, and any other symmantec software that uses it. Delete all corresponding directories and reinstall. So that's what i did and it worked. My theory was that LU updated itself to a new version on a recent LU update and that some how stuffed things up.

2003-02-05 04:48:00 | Ok my solution of uninstalling and reinstalling actually didn't work. It still says the server is timing out. I had a look of the logs and saw this 5/02/2003, 4:26:20 a.m. GMT -> Progress Update: DOWNLOAD_FILE_START: URL: "a1828.g.akamai.net Estimated Size: 77200, Destination Folder: "C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads" 5/02/2003, 4:26:20 a.m. GMT -> HttpSendRequest (status 408): Request failed - LiveUpdate timed out before the server responded. Server may not be reachable or you may not be connected to the Internet. 5/02/2003, 4:26:20 a.m. GMT -> Progress Update: DOWNLOAD_FILE_FINISH: - ERROR! - URL: "a1828.g.akamai.net Full Download Path: "C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\enncurd2.x86" HR: 0x802A0028 5/02/2003, 4:26:20 a.m. GMT -> HR 0x802A0028 DECODE: E_HTTP_SERVER_TIMEOUT So indeed it does look like the server is timing out. The thing is i can download updates for other parts of the system works package. what do i do?
