118419 2003-02-04 21:45:00 If a person with a laptop, say, wanders about and connects to the internet wherver they can find a phone jack, and dials into their connection then it doesn't matter where they connect from. OK? Because it's an 0800 number or something that doesn't bounce back to the phone subscriber, it doesn't matter where from?

So when I'm say, visitng friends or rellies, couldn't I use their computer with my dialup details so that I connect via my ISP?

Everybody is always very generous and says "sure go ahead" but couldn't I use my ISP account which otherwise is being unused. (I am the sole user. Apart from firends and rellies)

Your comments very much appreciatted.

118421 2003-02-04 21:54:00 Yes you can do that. I use my ISP settings all the time to test internet connections at friends places. As long as you know you ISP's dial-in number etc you can set it up anywhere you like. Of cause you can only have one connection at a time with each user name although some ISP's will just charge an hourly rate to each extra connection you have simultaneously.

One other thing to watch out for, I know with Freenet you can only dial-in from one specified phone number/line. If you try to dial-in from another location it just won't connect.
