2003-02-04 09:12:00 | Well, why do they? | rugila (214) | |
2003-02-04 09:14:00 | OT is Off Topic - ie not computer related. | godfather (25) | |
2003-02-04 09:20:00 | The posts labelled OT as godfather has mentioned indicate they are Off Topic - this is to allow people who do not enjoy reading non-computer related posts to avoid those threads. Me - I just love those OT posts :D Jen

2003-02-04 10:33:00 | Thanks for info. Point well clarified. But occurred to me that OT could also stand for "On Topic" Also some seemingly offtopic stuff relates back in an interesting (to me anyway) way to computers. Recent OT posts on education and mathematicians delight had stuff on matrices and electric circuitry and logic. Alan Turing in 1930's/40's used logic to develop his ideas on which your PC is ultimately based, and later used matrices to develop the electric circuitry for his prototype computer. I do think that most PressF1ers are (very sensibly) much more interested in questions such as which software to use, or how to sort out IE problems, etc. I need these too, but personally like having a bit of the other stuff dropped in from time to time as well. Am I in the wrong forum here?

2003-02-04 20:23:00 | Naah.. I think a lot of people enjoy taking a break from sweating it out over some strangers pc problems once in a while. That's why there's the "General Discussion" when you're posting as far as Im concerned :D So no, you're not in the wrong forum at all :-) *Unless Im in the wrong one too... :(* ;-)

2003-02-04 20:29:00 | The forum would be in a pretty parlous state if OT stood for "on topic", implying that all other posts were "off" :-) If you're WAY off topic, of course, the abbreviation to use is: OTT Trivia question: what does TLA mean other than "three-letter abbreviation"? | 118326 | 2003-02-04 20:39:00 | > Trivia question: what does TLA mean other than > "three-letter abbreviation"? Texas Library Association? ........... TLA doesn't have to only have 3 letters .... Quote: Sometimes used by extension for any confusing acronym. People who like this looser usage argue that not all TLAs have three letters, just as not all four-letter words have four letters. One also hears of "ETLA" (Extended Three-Letter Acronym) being used to describe four-letter acronyms. The term "SFLA" (Stupid Four-Letter Acronym) has also been reported. Handy list (www.magicpub.com) of TLA's ;-) Jen
