118428 2003-02-05 00:44:00 Hi

I am looking for a piece of software that can scan a computer, (Hardware and Software) and check for any errors or misconfigerations, or other problems.

I would prefer if it were free but if there is a cost can it be bought in a box in NZ

I would love to know of any known diagnostic software.

Thanks

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but perhaps you could try a free online diagnostic at http://www.pcpitstop.com/ - I gave this a whirl and received what I thought was an in-depth diagnosis of my home PC and tips on how to improve performance. If this isn't what you are looking for, I'm sure someone else will be able to point you at a software package that will do the job you require.

118432 2003-02-05 07:11:00 I work on fixing computers and sometimes you don't always know what is causing a problem etc. The main OS the program would be used on is Windows 95 and up, Linux isn't a huge concern at the moment. the Hardware and software is pretty much as wide a range a possible. 118433 2003-02-05 08:30:00 I'd be inlined to to think about small separate dos based programs that can be run from a boot disk and floppies, rather than one all 'can-do' windows program. A comp will often boot into dos when it wont get into windows due to some problem or other.

It isnt really convenient to load windows programs onto a comp that may be dodgy to find out where the dodginess is :)

You can get cpu , hard drive, vga, memory, floppy drive, monitor, CDROM drive, test utils all in dos for hardware testing as well as sysinfo utils.

SiSoft Sandra though, is a good windows based sysinfo/benchmark/ with some diagnostic tune up info program.

118434 2003-02-05 10:35:00 just been to pc pitsop.com and got this msg, is this contridictary or am i just lackin in sleep?

Overall Disk Health Poor. Very high fragmentation levels.
Recommendations Use a disk defragmenter as soon as possible to improve performance.

118435 2003-02-05 20:05:00 :) You must be lacking in sleep. it makes sense, it is telling you that you need to run defragmentor, as the hard drive is badly fragmented. NathanTheKind (472)
