118494 2003-02-05 05:37:00 I may not know, but I have a fair idea . :D I think you will be OK . Here are two more google strings:

"non-apple disk on mac g4" --- get the 4th or 5th link, title "Disk Drives" (developer . apple . com again, different area) . This says you need to use CS (cable select) on the drive .

"non-apple ide disk on mac g4" --- title "Upgrading your Mac Hard Drive" . This is a user's view of the subject .

Say something anti-MAC on a broader based forum then stand well clear.

118496 2003-02-05 06:55:00 @ Scott,

You should be able to install and use a recent PC 33/66/100/133 DMA hard disk drive inside your wife's Mac .

Just like, with some care, you can use SDRAM modules for PC's in Mac's .

Best research which ones by going checking out these helpful sites Macintouch ( . macintouch . com), and MacFixit (http://www . macfixit . com" target="_blank">www . macintouch . com), and MacFixit (http:) .

Also check out XLYR8YourMacintosh . One of the above mentioned sites will probably have a link to it and other good mac sites .

118497 2003-02-05 07:17:00 I once heard that mac OS's can be installed onto normal PCs so I don't know why you couldn't just use a normal HDD NathanTheKind (472)
118498 2003-02-05 08:47:00 Why not just try it and see.
Plenty of old IDE drives around, plenty of old Macs.
Mac software is usually pretty accomodationg and good at recognizing oddball devices.
My son bought a standard 30gb Seagate a couple of years ago and ran it through his Mac (I forgot which model) and it worked fine.

118499 2003-12-14 07:18:00 i might be a little late here but the easy solution would just to be to get an EXTERNAL hard drive. Megaman (344)
118500 2003-12-14 07:31:00 This post was from the beginning of the year - so yes, you are a bit late.

What's with the dragging up of Scott Bartley's posts?
