119006 2003-02-07 07:04:00 The latest Virus & Security Watch from IDGNet reports a new cumulative security update for Internet Explorer, q810847:

www.microsoft.com

This update also applies to Windows 95 and Win98, as well as Win98SE if you have IE 5.5 SP2 despite MS studiously avoiding mention of Win95 (presumably because they no longer support Win95, how more miserable can you get?).

Updates also for XP and 2000.

119007 2003-02-07 08:03:00 Thanks Terry. I see that Win XP has downloaded something for me to install and with your notice I'm just off to fetch the updates for Win 98 now. :-) Susan B (19)
119008 2003-02-07 08:42:00 Errkk...

This update applies to Internet Explorer with the following operating systems: .... Windows 98 SE

I've got plain vanilla Win 98. :-(

And I can't figure out whether the update is just for IE 6 or whether earlier versions can apply.

Oh well, might be time to install Opera/Mozilla/CrazyBrowser on the old girl. :-)

119009 2003-02-07 09:05:00 I'd give it a go Susan. I assume you are using IE6 with Win98 1st ed. If it doesnt want to update it will say so when you try ( save the file to disk, dont update on-line).
The update for IE 5.5SP2 works ok with Win95, they just dont want to tell you about anything before Win98SE. Even win98SE is going to be dropped this year.

119010 2003-02-07 09:12:00 Forgot to say, if you click on Download it will take you to the next page where it lists the different options, IE6, IE5.5 SP2, for the different O/Ss. You download the option you want, ie the "plain vanilla" IE6 for win98, or IE6 for XP, or IE5.5 SP2 for Win9x etc Terry Porritt (14)
