| 118974 | 2003-02-07 03:12:00 | Hi Team On recent recommendation from a PF1 user I downloaded Metapad to use instead of Windows Notepad. I like the extra features, but every time I open it , it defaults to the desktop and I have to mine down to the directory I want. Notepad always opened in my "Press F1 Notes" directory which was really useful as I only used Notepad for quick 'n dirty text files etc, and I have a whole raft of useful info there that I use quite often so quick access is important. I have seached the limited setup options and even did a registry search in case there was a key I could edit but no such luck. It doesn't have a help file either :( If I can't get it to behave in a more user-friendly fashion I'm afraid it will be back to notepad for me. Any ideas ?:| Cheers Billy 8-{) :| |

( . liquidninja . com/metapad/faq . html" target="_blank">www . liquidninja . com) [24] - Default File Folder Q: How can I make metapad start in a certain folder when I choose Open/Save File? A: All you have to do is find the shortcut to metapad (or make one with File | New | Shortcut in Explorer) . Right click on the shortcut and choose properties . In the shortcut tab there should be a field called Start in where you can enter a path to solve your problem . Update: Here is how you can make metapad use your "My Documents" folder by default . "My Documents" is a type of symbolic link to another folder on your system . Run regedit (Start | Run | "regedit") and look in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\ (and/or User Shell Folders) and I believe the "Personal" value will point to where exactly your My Documents folder is (use this in the directions above) .
